The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Review and GIVEAWAY reminder

The Night CircusThe Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The best way to approach this book is with absolutely no expectations. Not that it isn't magnificent because it is. Because it's nothing like I've ever read. It's sort of a "Pushing Daisies" in book form - a coalescences for the senses.

It is the story of two magicians who wager in a competition. The rules are not defined. The venue is yet to be determined - but it will be the Night Circus, and the game ends when....? Basically, Prospero (or Hector) discovers he has a daughter who happens to be gifted with magic. Hector contacts "Alexander" and tells him he's ready to compete when Alexander has a competitor. Years pass, talents emerge, a man has an idea, a committee creates a circus which is unique in hours, color (lack of) and talent, along with absolutely everything about it. In the midst of it all are two pawns in the competition.

The story played out in my head like a beautiful movie. It was more time consuming to read than my usual book where I can skim parts of the book. In this book I had to create images in my head that were incredibly well written and described but it took time and energy to create the images of enchantment. It was enjoyable to the very end. For the first time, I can't wait for the movie.
