Saturday, April 14th marks the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Leading up to this commemoration, introduce young readers to this time period like never before, with THE TIME-TRAVELING FASHIONISTA ON BOARD THE TITANIC by Bianca Turetsky!
A gorgeous evening dress magically transports a precocious twelve-year-old onboard the Titanic in this adventurous time-traveling series debut for lovers of vintage-fashion.
Thirty full-color fashion illustrations are featured throughout the book, showcasing beautiful dresses and fashion designs throughout history.
Bianca runs the studio of acclaimed artist/filmmaker Julian Schnabel, and is happy to speak to her love and expertise of vintage clothing (the book includes 25 full-color fashion illustrations from the time period). Her next book in the series is set in the Marie-Antoinette era. Over the summer, she went to Paris to do extensive research on this period.
A few questions for Bianca yielded the following:
A few questions for Bianca yielded the following:
What is your favorite era or style of clothing/dress? Do you want to provide an illustration?
My favorite era of clothing changes all the time depending on what I’m reading or what movies I’m watching. I’m currently obsessed with the 50’s. I just saw My Week With Marilyn, and the costumes were amazing! My shopping wish list is now all about knee length pencil skirts, silk blouses, cashmere cardigans, and slim cropped pants.
How did you get so interested in fashion design? What advice would you offer a young woman interested in getting into the business?
I love fashion, and if I weren’t an author being a fashion designer would definitely be my dream profession. One of my best friends is a designer and has worked with everyone from Karl Lagerfeld to Tommy Hilfiger, and I interviewed her for my blog about how she got into the business. Her advice was to know your fashion history! She also went to college for fashion design, although when she was there she also took all sorts of art classes. It’s great to explore everything before you focus on one specific area.
What is your favorite venue for shopping for great clothes and bargain basement prices?
My favorite venue is a flea market. You have to get there early for the best selection, but it’s totally worth it. Whenever I travel I always check out the local flea markets, and I’ve come back with some great bargains that I could never have found anywhere else!
I have 3 copies of this beautiful book for 3 lucky winners! How awesome is that? Fill out form below. If you can't see it, click HERE.
